There are times when Syon Park photos vividly capture the essence of a wedding, and times when they don't. Syon Park photos are gorgeous, but only if you've booked one of the various spaces in the park. Once you hit 200 people, couples are not fully aware of the different way the Great Hall, Great Conservatory, and the Syon Marquee in the Walled Garden react to the light going out. This guide offers information on the cost of each space, guest capacity, and the light we have in each area for an evening Asian or multicultural reception in the Great Hall and under the glass dome in the Conservatory.

Syon Park at a Glance

The Syon Park estate is the Duke of Northumberland's and the Percy family's residence in London, located on the banks of the Thames in Brentford, west London. The 200-acre grounds include Syon House, the Great Conservatory glasshouse, the Hotspur Wing guest apartments and the Walled Garden (separately managed), home to Syon Marquee. For a wedding, that means couples have made three choices before an asian wedding photographer has even got their boots on the ground: which room they're having a ceremony in, which room they're having their reception in and whether they and their guests are going to fit in the historic house or whether they need the Marquee.

How Much Does a Wedding at Syon Park Cost?

Syon Park rates private hire cars annually and the 2026 rates listed below are venue hire only. They do not include catering, photography, flowers, music or the registrar fee which are all payable separately from Syon's approved supplier list. Hire fees are charged from April until September.

·       Ceremony and reception in the afternoon on Saturday, followed by an evening ceremony, and two nights' stay in the Hotspur Wing: £26,000. This is the Great Hall for the ceremony (around 3 to 3.30 or 4pm) and the Great Conservatory for dinner and dancing from 5.30pm to midnight.

·       The price of £19,000 includes Friday afternoon ceremony and an evening reception. Great Hall 3-5.30pm, Great Conservatory 5.30pm-midnight, no accommodation provided.

·       Appearance in ceremony in the afternoon plus evening reception: Monday or Tuesday: £16,000. Great Hall is open from 3 to 6 pm and the Great Conservatory is open 6 pm until midnight.

·       Sunday: £12,000 for the Great Conservatory (6pm – midnight).

·       Evening Only: Monday to Thursday: £9,000 (Great Conservatory) 6pm to midnight.

·       Sunday-Thursday evening bookings will have an additional ceremony or drink charge of £1,000. Please note: This ceremony or drink can be booked in conjunction with a Sunday or Monday to Thursday evening Great Conservatory hire only, at £3,500 for a Sunday and £3,000 Monday-Thursday.

·       In addition to a venue hire, hire of catering from Syon's approved list begins from approximately £220 + VAT per guest including food and drink, furniture, crockery, linen and staff.

·       In addition, there are five million pounds of public liability insurance which must be arranged in advance of every wedding.

Great Conservatory vs Syon Marquee: Which One Fits Your Guest List?

This is the most important decision to make, whether you're creating your lighting rigs or figuring out how much time the photography and videography crew will spend on location. The Great Conservatory is located within the main gardens of Syon Park and can be booked as part of the Syon House hire above. For larger events, there is a separate purpose-built, Syon Marquee, in the Walled Garden with its own booking process.

Great Conservatory

·       Can accommodate up to 160 people for dinner and dancing or 200 people standing.

·       Evening times only, April through September.

·       The architecture does a lot of the "visual work" with a 19th-century glass and iron building, which is part of the historic gardens.

·       Ideal for intimate-to-mid sized receptions or a combination wedding where the wedding is held in the Great Hall and the reception in the evening is less than 200 guests.

Syon Marquee (Walled Garden)

·       A purpose-built marquee suitable for up to 800 guests, allowing much greater space than the Conservatory for a large standing reception, and a seated dinner format will be different depending on layout your planner and caterer design.

·       Available for about half the time as the Great Conservatory, April to October.

·       A blank canvas structure in the four-acre Walled Garden, which was constructed and decorated anew for each program, rather than one that is a fixed historic interior.

·       Ideal for large multicultural weddings, arrivals (baraat) for weddings, sangeet-style evenings and for any reception of more than 200 guests.

A great many of the multicultural wedding photos that we get are simply based on the number of guests. If you're planning a large Punjabi or Gujarati wedding with a baraat procession and an evening reception for hundreds, then nothing else really fits into the Great Conservatory, which has a capacity of 200 people. So only one option remains in the Marquee. Couples who want a smaller, more intimate wedding reception of less than 160 or a wedding with ceremony held in the Great Hall and reception in the Conservatory tend to prefer the Conservatory for guest enjoyment and photography.

Evening Light: What It Means for Your Photos

Both the Great Conservatory and Syon Marquee are evening venues. Syon Park's gardens are closed to the public at 5pm, making it impossible to hire these gardens during the day. Hire windows only open at 5.30pm or 6pm. That does impact our planning of coverage.

Great Hall ceremony (afternoon)

The ceremonies take place in the middle of the day, usually from 3pm – 4pm. The spacious windows in the Great Hall allow light to fall in a concentrated manner onto the black and white stage floor for dramatic, high contrast ceremony imagery, all with no additional lights. This is the only thing that happens in natural daylight of the wedding day, so we take couple photographs and family groups right after the church service, before the sun goes down.

Great Conservatory reception (evening)

When the reception is moved into the Conservatory, the light is completely changed from that of the evening light in the glasshouse to whatever light has been set up within the production team's special effects. We strike a balance between the warm interior colors for dinner and speeches and flash for the dancing later in the evening to ensure skin tones are held and cut through the mixed color temperature under the glass dome. A first dance or entrance to the Conservatory in the baraat style successfully lends a dramatic, lit-glasshouse atmosphere at night, one of Syon Park's major photographic attractions.

Syon Marquee reception (evening)

The Marquee has no built-in architectural light source, therefore, all lighting is sourced from the production and lighting rig, which the couple's team puts in place. In fact, it's a benefit for scale photography and videography, as we can work with the lighting designer BEFORE the event, and ensure that moments, the entrance, the stage, the dance floor, etc. are lit for both camera and room.

A Typical Saturday at Syon Park

The format outlined in Syon's own rate card is a good starting point when planning out a photography and videography schedule:

·       5:00pm, Friday: Check-in to Hotspur Wing (2-night minimum stay).

·       Around 3pm on Saturday: guests arrive; the ceremony takes place at 3.30 or 4pm in the Great Hall, seating will be up to 120.

·       Saturday 5.30-6pm: Drinks Reception in Inner Courtyard, Colonnade or State Dining Room.

·       Saturday 5.30/6pm to midnight: dinner and dancing in the Great Conservatory, up to 160 seated / 200 standing guests, guests to be removed by 12.30am.

·       Entertainment included: Sunday morning, 9.30am, breakfast in the Hotspur Wing, depart at 11am.

Other schedules are offered directly from the events team of Syon Park and also weddings for the Marquee are on their own timetable, negotiated with the events team of the Walled Garden, not the Syon House events office. and evening reception.

Photographing a Multicultural Wedding at Syon Park

Some of the things we anticipate we will be doing:

·       Baraat and entrance choreography: This is because the Marquee has far more capacity therefore entrances can include a full procession, dhol players and family entrances which require a second shooter in front of the couple, rather than behind them.

·       As the Nikkah, Anand Karaj and Vivaah receptions get large, we take the time in the shot list to account for multiple outfit changes, rather than cutting it out of our schedule.

·       Family portrait blocking: If you're expecting a large number of guests, family group photos require a proper planning strategy, agreed on beforehand, as the Conservatory and Marquee can get very busy once the food has arrived on the table.

Because the gardens close to the public at 5pm and evening hire doesn't start until 5.30 or 6pm, we recommend that you begin formal hire at 3 or 3.30pm, when we use the natural light for family portraits, couple shots and other hire arrangements within the Inner Courtyard before evening hire starts.
