Photography for Every Part of Your Hindu Wedding
Mehndi
The henna night, usually two or three days before the wedding. Loosest, loudest, and most candid part of the whole week. We shoot this one differently, closer to documentary than portraiture.
Sangeet
Performances, choreographed dances, and at least one uncle who wasn’t supposed to be part of the routine but is now the best part of it. We stay mobile through this one rather than fixed in one spot.
Mandap Ceremony
The four-pillared canopy where the couple sits for the main ceremony. Positioning here matters: the Mandap is often open on all sides, so the best angle depends on where the priest, the fire, and the families are all sitting relative to each other. That changes venue to venue.
Kanyadaan
The father giving his daughter’s hand to the groom. It happens quickly and quietly compared to the rest of the ceremony, and it’s easy to miss if you’re not already anticipating it rather than reacting to it.
Saptapadi
The seven steps around the sacred fire. This is the ceremonial core of the wedding, and we know the sequence well enough to be positioned for step one through step seven, not just the moment someone tells us it’s happening.
Varmala / Jaimala
The garland exchange. Sometimes formal, sometimes a genuine friendly contest between the wedding parties to get the garland on first. Either way, it photographs well.

The bride’s departure from her family home, and consistently one of the most emotionally unfiltered moments of the entire wedding.

A Gujarati wedding, a Tamil wedding, and a Jain wedding don’t run on the same customs, even where the religious core overlaps. We ask about your family’s specific traditions before the day: which ceremonies happen in what order, and which ones are open to photography and which aren’t. That way nothing gets improvised on the day itself.
