Wedding coverage sometimes rushes past a detail worth slowing down for: the individual reactions during each of the four Lavaan, not just the wide shot of the ritual as a whole. For Jai and Amarjyot we ran a second camera specifically to hold on their expressions as each hymn progressed, since that's usually where the real emotion of the ceremony shows itself.

The gurdwara setting called for the same restraint we bring to every Sikh ceremony, steady framing, minimal movement, respect for a space used for worship well beyond this one wedding. August in London often means back-to-back weekends for us, so preparing this shoot in advance kept the coverage unhurried despite a busy month. The kirtan set a pace we tried to honour in the edit rather than cutting quickly across it. Reactions from the wider congregation, parents, siblings, extended family, added another layer worth paying attention to, since the ceremony belongs as much to them as to the couple at its centre.
